Hirabatake-san joins MFC GIM Japan as Head of Sales & Client Service — January 27, 2010

TORONTO, January 27, 2010 — MFC Global Investment Management Japan (MFC GIM Japan) has hired Hidenori (“Hide”) Hirabatake.   Joining as a Head of Sales and Client Service, Hide oversees institutional business and product development for MFC GIM Japan. Hide will also be responsible for the direct sales of MFC GIM’s investment capabilities to external institutional clients and strategic alliances in Japan as well as to the company’s affiliated business partners.

Hide has 22 years experience in investment management sales and marketing specializing in the institutional market, most notably public and corporate pension funds and consultants.

Hide was previously in charge of client relationship management at Barclays Global Investors Japan, overseeing relationships with domestic and global pension consultants.  Starting his career at Sumitomo Trust & Banking in 1988, he has worked for Deutsche Trust Bank, SPARX Asset Management and AllianceBernstein.

His educational background includes a B.A. in Economics from Keio University and a M.B.A. from MIT Sloan School of Management. He holds a Chartered Financial Analyst as well as a Chartered Member of the Security Analysts Association of Japan designations.
